Synchrotech ships 13-port USB 2.0 hub

If you’ve been wondering how you’ll use all those gizmos you’ve been collecting at the same time, ponder no more. Synchrotech is now shipping its 13-port USB 2.0 hub, which barely falls short of the alternative we peeked earlier this year. Notably, this creation boasts a much smaller, sleeker design that isn’t likely to attract too much attention (until all those ports are filled, that is), but the baker’s dozen is (obviously) backwards compatible with USB 1.1 and will cost you just $45. Oh, the possibilities.

Keepin’ it real fake, part XCVI: the true nano fatty

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

We suppose this is exactly what happened the first time Ive fired up Photoshop to mock up the third-gen — or what happens when spend a little too much time watching pandas at the zoo. Plays the usual goofy MTV format on its 2.4-inch screen, as well as MP3 and WMA, but honestly, you wouldn’t be caught dead with this thing, would you?

Fujitsu’s LifeBook S6510 gets reviewed

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Fujitsu’s LifeBook S6510, which we just earlier this month, has made its way over to Notebook Review not a moment too soon, and the kind folks over there have put the machine through its paces in order to give you the skinny. As expected, reviewers marveled at the thinness of the 14.1-inch lappie, and even with the optical drive loaded in, they were delighted to find that it only weighed four pounds. Additionally, it was stated that the S6510 was surprisingly rigid, and while the LCD didn’t exactly live up to the standards Fujitsu has set for itself, it was far from abysmal. Furthermore, the unit performed admirably in a plethora of tests, the keyboard was a joy to use and the battery life was right on par. Notably, the unit did emit quite a bit of heat, but all in all, this LifeBook should certainly fit the bill if you’re looking for a business laptop that won’t add any undue strain on your back.

Water-activated portable power generator on the horizon

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

We’ve seen our fair share of diminutive power generators, but rather than worrying with or , Millennium Cell and Horizon Fuel Cell have teamed up to deliver an iteration that’s water-activated. The pair has been working together on this technology for some time now, and apparently, it’s readying a beta that will be demonstrated at next year’s CES. The portable power generator incorporates a “unique water-activated cartridge system,” which is designed to quietly provide clean energy to consumer products in emergencies and when far, far away from an electrical outlet. Reportedly, the device will provide an AC socket alongside two USB connectors, an operating time of over 16-hours, infinite shelf-storage life and 400-watts of instant juice by just adding H2O. Regrettably, we still have no idea what this thing actually looks like, but considering that CES is less than two months away, we’ll soon be seeing what this $400 gizmo can do up close and in person.

Exmocare’s wristwatch cares about your feelings

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Exmocare has been prepping this watch for quite a while now, but it certainly seems to be shaping up of late. The Exmocare wristwatch monitors your heart rate, heart rate variability, movement and galvanic skin response, all of which the watch uses to determine how you’re doing, specifically emotionally. If something’s too outside the norm, the watch can report the condition to a loved one or caretaker over email, SMS or IM. It’s primarily designed for elderly patients, and will be hitting the market early 2008.

JVC Victor gets official with 4k x 2k DLA-SH4K projector

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Not even two months after JVC Victor its (then unnamed) 4k x 2k projector at CEATEC, the firm has finally come clean and given said unit a proper title and release time frame. The DLA-SH4K, which obviously packs that awe-inspiring chip, touts a 4,096 x 2,400 resolution, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 3,500 lumens, a dual-link DVI input, multiscreen mode, an Ethernet port for remote operation and RS-232 / USB connectors to boot. Additionally, this thing will even email its owner when the time comes to replace the lamp or if some error occurs within, and while it’s still sporting the elusive “open price,” interested consumers will have their chance to take one home in January 2008.

Sony, Fuji, and Maxell fined $110M for videotape cartel

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

The EU just lashed Sony, Fuji, and Maxell with fines totaling €75 million ($110 million) on grounds of . The 3-way Japanese cartel controlling 85% of the professional videotape market was found guilty of artificially controlling prices on Betacam SP and Digital Betacam — the two most popular professional videotape formats in use between 1999 and 2002. According to the EU commission, they “organized three successful rounds of price increases and endeavored to stabilize prices whenever an increase was not possible.” Such naughty, naughty billionaires now what they’ve sown.

DIY’er stuffs MAME machine into dinner table

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Hot on the heels of Gamerator’s stupendous and AOTS “” comes a DIY project that gives both of the aforementioned products a run for their money. The aptly-titled IKEA MAME Dinner Table cleverly crams a MAME machine into a standard dinner table, which we’re absolutely sure any warm-blooded mother (and / or gamer) could appreciate. The table can slide open to reveal a 15-inch LCD, Happ Controls and an Ultimarc I-PAC, and while a myriad games can be played, the creator’s personal favorite is the famed Ms. Pacman. Click on for a couple more looks, and then head on to the read link for a slew of pics from the underside.
